I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico. My family migrated to the United States when I was four years old. Our first home in America was Akron, Ohio where I attended elementary then middle school. San Antonio, Texas became our next home and is where I graduated from Roosevelt High School. In 2001 Enterprise, Alabama became my family's home. I am the proud mother of two wonderful young men, Matthew James and Jonathan Eric. Matthew James is employed with the U.S. Postal Service and Jonathan Eric is a freshman in college. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, volunteer work, gardening, swimming, sporting events, and traveling. This past summer I spent the month of July in Japan. It was an amazing first time experience!

My passion for working with children began at a very young age. I did a great deal of babysitting as a young teenager. Then at sixteen I began working as a pre-K aide at a child development center and remained there for the next five years. During those five years I gained a great deal of experience working with children ranging from infants to 12 year olds. Over the years I held well paying jobs (e.g., AT&T International Service Representative, Assistant Manager at Lerner New York), yet I did not feel the same level of satisfaction in these positions as I felt when I worked with children. In 2001 I decided to return to college to major in education and have never regretted my decision.

It was during my teaching career at Harrand Creek Elementary that I saw a great need to further my education to better serve our rapidly growing ELL (English Language Learner) student population. Earning my M.A. Ed. in English as a Second Language has enabled me to hold my current position here at Hillcrest Elementary as an ESL teacher. One of my primary goals is to encourage our ELLs (English Language Learner students) to embrace their diversity and to be proud of it. Another one is to provide support to our ELLs, their parents, faculty, and staff that will assist our ELLs in increasing their English language proficiency as they also learn content requirements. I look forward to collaborating with each of you and our ELLs throughout this exciting new school year.
